W. Trey Merck has prepared and been prepared (through experience and life experiences) to help you with your legal matter at this time. Trey believes strongly in overcoming adversity, and he believes one of the main components of overcoming adversity is being granted an opportunity to succeed. The title of his essay as part of his application to law school was “Opportunity”.
Trey comes from a working-class family where his father greatly encouraged him to attend college. He listened to his dad and ultimately graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology with an emphasis in Criminal Justice and a minor in Psychology. He then went on to work in criminal justice and counseling and acquired a Master’s Degree in Counseling before he decided to attend law school. When he attended law school, he already had a family and a number of monetary obligations. In addition, he drove for 3 hours daily to attend law school, however, he finished in the top 1⁄3 of his law school class and graduated early after only two and a half years with his third child only 6 weeks old.
Trey started his solo practice of law in August 1998, just a few months after he was licensed. After looking at his options, he decided to engage in community legal work dealing one-on-one with individuals with such issues as employment problems, injuries both at work and otherwise, and the ongoing issues of aging and disability.
Over the last 20+ years, this has given Trey experience in a large number of practice areas too numerous to list here. He has now narrowed his areas of law to focus on his primary practice areas including motor vehicle accidents, personal injury, slip and falls, probate, employment law, medical malpractice, social security disability, workers' comp, and product liability.
Trey also continues to take other cases in other areas of law – just call his office if you have a matter in which you need legal assistance. In addition, Trey is willing to make referrals, recommendations, and suggestions for other areas of law in which he does not practice on a case-by-case basis because service to his clients and the community is, as always, his primary focus.
Trey knew in law school that he was going to be a Personal Injury Lawyer – he just didn’t know the experiences he would have on this journey. He also knew when he handled his first Social Security Disability case that he was hooked. There is a great degree of satisfaction that comes from helping others.
